  COTTAGES & ACCOMMODATION IN SANKRI

Q6. What cottage accommodation does Himalaya Trek Inn offer in Sankri?

Himalaya Trek Inn operates cosy mountain cottages in Sankri village with single, double, and dormitory room options. All rooms include warm bedding, hot water, and access to home-cooked Garhwali meals. The cottages have open views of the Supin River valley and surrounding Himalayan ridgelines. Wi-Fi is available in common areas. Parking is on-site. Our cottages are the ideal pre-trek basecamp — arrive a day early, rest properly, and begin your trek at full energy. Cottage booking is available independently of trekking packages.

Q7. Can I stay at Himalaya Trek Inn without joining a trekking package?

Yes. Our Sankri cottage accommodation is available for independent travellers, families visiting the region, and guests who simply want to experience the Himalayan village atmosphere without a full trek. Day hiking around Sankri is available as a separate guided service. Many guests book 2–3 nights in the cottage and join one of our guided day hikes through the local forest and viewpoint trails before deciding whether to commit to a longer route. Simply book cottage accommodation directly via our website or WhatsApp.

Q8. Is Himalaya Trek Inn suitable for families with young children?

Yes. Himalaya Trek Inn is one of the best-rated family trekking companies in Sankri. For families with children aged 10 and above, the Har Ki Dun Trek (spring or autumn) and Dev Kyara Bugyal Trek are both well-suited family trekking packages. For younger children (ages 6–9), guided day hikes from the Sankri cottage are the recommended option. Private family guides, flexible pace scheduling, and mule offloading for heavy bags are all available. Contact us to discuss your family’s age range and we will recommend the most appropriate route and format.

  SEASONS, TRAILS & TREK CONDITIONS

Q9. What is the best time to do trekking in Sankri, Uttarakhand?

Trekking in Sankri is available year-round, with four distinct seasonal windows: Winter (December–February) — Peak season for Kedarkantha snow trek; the trail is snow-covered above 2,800 m and the summit delivers a 360-degree white panorama of 13 Himalayan peaks. Spring (April–June) — Best for Har Ki Dun, Ruinsara Tal, and Dev Kyara Bugyal; rhododendrons in bloom, meadows turning green, and clear morning skies. Autumn (September–November) — Golden meadows, stable weather, excellent visibility, and lower crowd density. Monsoon (July–August) — Not recommended; trail to Purola–Sankri prone to landslides.

Q10. Is Kedarkantha the best winter trek from Sankri?

Yes. Kedarkantha Trek is widely considered the best winter snow trek in India and is the signature offering at Himalaya Trek Inn. Sankri December trekking and Sankri trekking in January are the peak windows — the summit snowpack reaches 3–5 feet, the forest campsites are wrapped in snow, and the 3,800 m summit delivers a 360-degree view of peaks including Swargarohini, Bandarpunch, and Black Peak. Himalaya Trek Inn runs Kedarkantha fixed departure treks every week from December through March. Snow trek packages include microspikes, gaiters, and -15°C sleeping bags as standard.

Q11. Is trekking in Sankri good for beginners?

Absolutely. Sankri trekking for beginners is one of our specialties at Himalaya Trek Inn. The Kedarkantha Trek (winter) and Dev Kyara Bugyal (summer/autumn) are both rated Easy-to-Moderate with no technical sections, manageable daily distances (6–8 km), and a supportive guide team available throughout. No prior trekking experience is required. We recommend a basic fitness routine — brisk walking, stair climbing — for 3–4 weeks before departure. Our guides are trained to support first-timers and adjust pace based on the group’s needs.

Q12. Do you offer trekking in Sankri during the monsoon season (July–August)?

We do not run standard group packages in July–August due to active monsoon, landslide risk on the Purola–Sankri highway, and slippery trail conditions above Sankri. However, our cottage accommodation remains open year-round. Guided day hikes on lower forest trails near Sankri are possible for guests staying at the cottage during July–August. The best monsoon trekking in Uttarakhand is Valley of Flowers (Chamoli district), which we can arrange as a separate package with transport from Rishikesh.

  SAFETY, GUIDES & CERTIFICATIONS

Q13. Are Himalaya Trek Inn guides certified?

Yes. All guides at Himalaya Trek Inn hold Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification from recognised mountain safety institutions. Every guide is local to the Sankri–Uttarkashi region with a minimum of 3 years full-time guiding experience. We do not hire seasonal freelance guides or outsource guiding to third parties. Your guide is introduced to you personally at our Sankri trekking office before departure. Himalaya Trek Inn is registered with the Uttarakhand Tourism Department — registration credentials available on request.

Q14. What safety equipment is carried on Himalaya Trek Inn treks?

Every multi-day Himalaya Trek Inn departure carries: (1) Emergency oxygen cylinder, (2) Pulse oximeter (to monitor altitude sickness), (3) Satellite communicator for emergency contact beyond mobile network range, (4) Stretcher for medical evacuation, (5) Comprehensive first aid kit including Diamox, ORS, pain relief, and altitude sickness medication. We maintain active emergency contacts with hospitals in Purola and Uttarkashi for rapid response. Trekkers are briefed on altitude sickness symptoms on Day 1 of every trek.

Q15. What happens if someone gets altitude sickness on the trek?

Altitude sickness (AMS — Acute Mountain Sickness) is manageable with the right response. Our certified guides monitor all trekkers with pulse oximeters from Day 2 onwards. At the first signs of AMS — headache, nausea, dizziness, difficulty walking — the standard protocol is immediate rest, hydration, and Diamox administration if appropriate. If symptoms worsen, descent is initiated immediately — this is non-negotiable. Our satellite communicator allows us to arrange emergency vehicle pickup at the nearest accessible road point. Himalaya Trek Inn has managed AMS situations safely across all trail conditions without incident.

SCHOOL, CORPORATE & SPECIAL GROUP ENQUIRIES

Q16. Does Himalaya Trek Inn run school trekking trips from Sankri?

Yes. School trekking trips in Sankri, Uttarakhand are a dedicated service at Himalaya Trek Inn. We design structured 4–6 day programmes for school groups aged 12–18 on the Kedarkantha or Har Ki Dun routes. Each school programme includes: wilderness education sessions (Himalayan ecology, flora and fauna identification), safety briefings appropriate for the age group, teacher support coordination, permission letter templates, and student-specific dietary management. Groups of 15–80 students are accommodated. Contact us 6–8 weeks in advance for school trip bookings.

Q17. Can Himalaya Trek Inn organise corporate team-building treks in Sankri?

Yes. Corporate trekking in Sankri is one of the fastest-growing segments of our business. We design 2–5 day corporate trekking programmes on Kedarkantha, Har Ki Dun, or Dayara Bugyal that combine the physical challenge of a Himalayan trail with optional team facilitation activities — group problem-solving challenges, campfire leadership discussions, and summit celebration formats. Fully managed logistics for corporate groups of 10–80 people. Custom branding, photography, and video documentation services available. Reach out via WhatsApp or our website enquiry form for a corporate package quote.

Q18. Do you offer senior-friendly trekking in Sankri?

Yes. Himalaya Trek Inn offers dedicated senior trekking programmes for guests aged 55 and above. The Har Ki Dun Trek (October) with a private guide, mule offloading for personal bags, and guesthouse accommodation wherever available is our most recommended senior format. Maximum altitude stays below 3,600 m. Daily distance is adjusted to the group’s pace — typically 6–8 km per day. No rush, no performance pressure. Our senior guests consistently rate the Har Ki Dun experience as one of the most meaningful journeys of their lives. Medical questionnaire required for bookings of guests over 60.
